Pros:
Just want to start out saying that this is a very nice motorcycle for the money. I appreciate the time you have allotted me to let you know of the good and the bad pertaining to the RPS Magician 250.
The sales representative was absolutely bar none the most helpful, professional and courteous person I have dealt with in a while. Once the order was placed, I received follow up emails letting me know the status and delivery time (Five days) for the motorcycle.
When the bike arrived it was well packaged with no flaws. It took me about 2 hours to assemble. Did have trouble with it starting, went on line found out that it has a safety switch on the kick stand which solved the problem and it started right up.
I took the Magician for a short test ride at which time I realized the speedometer was not working, unscrewed the cable were it connects to the wheel speed sensor the cable was twisted off. Contacted parts and they submitted it to the manufacturer, two weeks later received the parts.
The bike has a great seat height for short people like myself and is very agile and easy to handle in rough terrain. Also has plenty of power for slow back country riding.
Cons;
MSO is slow to get to me after paying to have it expedited.
Parts take a long time to get to the consumer for warranty work.
Make sure to take ever bolt out and lock tight it!!!! I did not because I wanted to see if it was true what was being said on the reviews. I have put 400 mile on the bike already some paved road mostly forestry dirt roads and have had the chain guide bolt work loose, the exhaust bolt back out and the foot pedal brake lever bolt fall completely off and have no rear brake coming down a very steep forestry gravel road with 150 to 200 foot drop offs (not happy with the QC guys and gals at RPS during that adventure). Please take the time to add lock tight to your bolts to keep bad things happening to good people. I would be willing to pay a little bit more for the added safety feature!
The speedometer is in MPH but the odometer is still in Kilometers. When it shows 175 mile I will have gone by GPS 108 miles so the mileage on the bike is going to be much higher that it actual is, in most cases would be bad for resale but for what you pay for the bike does not really matter.
This bike has a lot of vibration at 55 MPH so be sure to do a very thorough pre trip inspection of all bolts.
With all the above remarks I think this bike is well worth the money and is the exact same frame as the xt250 that will cost you a little over 5000, although it does have a different motor.
